D.C. Police Charge Man For Injuring 2 In July 2024 Northwest Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, a 28-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was apprehended and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in July 2024 in Northwest, D.C., leaving two women injured.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, just shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 1800 Block of Park Road in Northwest, D.C.
Police Find Two Women Injured Inside Car
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that an unidentified suspect fired at a moving motor vehicle, striking a woman inside the vehicle. A second woman was injured inside the vehicle by broken glass. The woman who had been struck by gunfire was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while the second woman was treated on the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, shortly before 3:00 p.m., during an investigation into narcotics activity, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District officers stopped a suspect who was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the area of Southern Avenue and South Capitol Street in Southeast, D.C.
Police Charge Carter With Narcotics Offenses And Link Him To The Shooting
During the stop, a subsequent records check revealed that Marquis Carter, 28, of Southeast, D.C., had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. Upon the discovery of the warrants, Carter was taken into custody and formally charged with being a Fugitive from Justice; Felony Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
While at the Seventh District Police Headquarters, based on the Detectives’ previous investigation, Carter was additionally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in connection with the July 25, 2024, shooting.
Carter was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
