CAMDEN, NJ.- On Wednesday, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay reported a 29-year-old former Berlin Township, New Jersey, man wanted for multiple bank robberies in Southern New Jersey and who fled the United States to avoid prosecution was apprehended late last month in Lviv, Ukraine.

Edward Deveaux, 29, formerly of Berlin Township, was taken into custody on February 25, 2025, in Lviv, Ukraine, by Ukrainian authorities working with the United States Marshals Service Office of International Operations in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Internal Affairs.

Deveaux Charged Shortly After Robbing Second Bank

Following an investigation, Deveaux was first charged on September 30, 2022, with two counts of second-degree Robbery in connection with two robberies that occurred at the Truist Bank, located on the 200 Block of White Horse Pike in Waterford, New Jersey, on September 22, 2022, and the Republic Bank located on the 600 Block of Berlin-Cross Keys Road in Winslow, New Jersey, on September 28, 2022.

Detectives Learn Deveaux Fled

Following a swift-moving investigation at that time, after reviewing bank video surveillance footage, Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the Waterford Police Department, and the Winslow Police Department were able to identify Deveaux as the individual responsible for both robberies. Following being charged, Detectives attempted to apprehend Deveaux in Camden County but quickly learned that he had fled the jurisdiction to avoid arrest and prosecution.

Additionally, Deveaux was charged by Burlington County, New Jersey, authorities on October 3, 2022, in connection with the robbery of the TD Bank located on the Unit Block of Levitt Parkway in Willingboro, New Jersey.

During a subsequent fugitive investigation, Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Senior Detective and an investigator of the U.S. Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force Camden Divison, investigators were able to gather intelligence that Deveaux had flown to multiple countries in Europe before ultimately crossing the border into Ukraine. Further, investigators developed information that led to Deveaux’s whereabouts in Lviv, Ukraine, where Ukrainian authorities placed him under arrest. Deveaux is currently being detained in Ukraine pending extradition to the United States.

“Whether defendants flee over the Delaware River or across the Atlantic Ocean, we will continue to bring fugitives to justice through our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service,” said Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
