D.C. Police Detectives Charge Man In Saturday Afternoon Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Sunday, a 26-year-old Northwest, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with shooting a man Saturday afternoon in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, shortly after 2:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District responded to reports of gunfire on the 1200 Block of Madison Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service to a nearby hospital treatment. The man’s condition is unknown at this time.
During the ensuing investigation into the shooting, Fourth District Detectives were able to identify Kavon Phillips, 26, of Northwest, D.C., as the shooter. On Sunday, March 16, 2025, Phillips was taken into custody and formally charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Cause Bodily Harm; Carrying a Handgun Without a Licence; Possession of a Controlled Substance; Possession of a Unregistered Firearm; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm or Destructive Device; Possession of Unregistered Ammunition; and Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine.
After being processed on the charges, Phillips was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
