ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Julio Vazquez-Dones, 38, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Pamela D’Arcy to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison for his previously entered guilty plea to first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter.

In handing down the sentence, Judge D’Arcy ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Vazquez-Dones to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.

According To Atlantic County Prosecutor Reynolds

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, the sentence stems from an investigation that began on July 8, 2023, when, at right around 5:00 a.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a report of an altercation at the Red Carpet Inn in the City. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Jewel Lonon, 31, of Rosedale, New York, suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Mr. Lonon was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, Atlantic City Police Officers and Detectives reviewed surveillance video footage from the Red Carpet Inn and detained multiple people for questioning. Surveillance footage also revealed a Hispanic man wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts chasing Mr. Lonon into the Inn’s parking lot. The suspect then assaulted and stabbed Mr. Lonon multiple times.

Detectives spoke with Vazquez-Dones, who admitted to stabbing Mr. Lonon after a dispute and further admitted to throwing his clothes and weapon away after stabbing Mr. Lonon.
