Police Charge Two Men In The Shooting Death Of Former Morgan State Basketball Player

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, March 22, 2025, a 44-year-old Northeast, D.C., man and a 41-year-old Southeast, D.C., man were taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in September 2023 at a nightclub in Northeast, D.C., that claimed the life of former Mogan State basketball star, Blake Bozeman and injured three others.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, September 23, 2023, shortly after 11:45 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a shooting with multiple injuries at the Cru Hookah Lounge located on H Street in Northeast, D.C.
When Officers Arrived They Found Four People Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found three men and a woman, all suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services immediately transported the victims to area hospitals, where, despite life-saving measures, one of the men, Blake Bozeman, 31, of Southeast, D.C., tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. The other three victims were treated and have all recovered from their injuries.
Detectives Were Able To Identify Wynn And Shelton As The Shooters
During an extensive investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify Cotey Wynn, 44, of Northeast, D.C., and Antwan Shelton, 41, of Southeast, D.C., as the shooters and the individuals responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Bozeman and injuring the other three victims. Following the identification, arrest warrants were issued for both Wynn and Shelton.
Accordingly, on Friday, March 21, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested both Wynn and Shelton pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant. Both Wynn and Shelton were each charged with one count of first-degree Murder While Armed.
Wynn and Shelton were processed on the charges and were remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Additional charges may be filed against the two men.
