Police Charge Man For Fatally Gunning Down Teenager In Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, March 21, 2025, a 40-year-old Northwest, D.C. man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man that occurred in June 2024 in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, June 30, 2024, shortly before 4:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Northwest District responded to gunfire on the 700 Block of Missouri Avenue in Northwest, D.C.
Police Officers Locate Man Shot Several Times
   Upon arrival, Police Officers were unable to find a victim and began canvassing the surrounding area and found a man, later identified as Raymond Washington, 18, of Northeast, D.C., on the 5700 Block of 7th Street in Northwest, D.C., lying on the ground, suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.
   DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services immediately transported Mr. Washington to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving measures, Mr. Washington succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.Â
Detectives Determine The Shooting Was Premeditated
During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives identified the suspect as Byron Sneed, 40, of Northwest, D.C., as the individual responsible for fatally gunning down Mr. Washington in a targeted shooting. Following being identified, a warrant was issued for Sneed’s arrest.
On Friday, March 21, 2025, Homicide Branch Detectives were able to locate and arrest Sneed pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, charging Sneed with one count of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. Sneed was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
