PITTSBURGH, PA. On Friday, March 21, 2025, a 38-year-old Honduran national who was illegally residing in the United States appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Hornak to time served after pleading guilty to one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by Previously Deported Alien.

During Friday’s court hearing in U.S. Federal Court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Judge Hornak sentenced Saul Enrique Padilla-Mejia, 38, to time served and ordered Padilla-Mejia to remain in federal custody pending his removal from the United States. Padilla-Mejia was first taken into custody in October 2024 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti and charging documents filed with the District Court, Padilla-Mejia was previously removed from the United States on August 13, 2019, and returned to Honduras. On February 4, 2024, the Pennsylvania State Police charged Padilla-Mejia in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County with multiple traffic violations, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Those charges remain pending. According to court records, federal immigration authorities determined that Padilla-Mejia was illegally present in the United States and took him into custody on October 30, 2024.
