ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Friday, March 21, 2025, Tyree Gittens, also known as Tyree Brewer, 31, of the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Joseph Levin to one count of third-degree Theft; and one count of Hindering Apprehension.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, in return for the guilty plea, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Gittens be sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison on the two third-degree charges and a disorderly persons narcotics offense.
Following entering his guilty plea on Friday, Judge Levin accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for June 13, 2025, in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
Investigation Leads To Charges Being Filed
The charges and guilty plea stem from an investigation that began on October 9, 2024, when, on routine patrol, members of the Atlantic City Police Department observed Gittens displaying signs of distress inside an Atlantic City restaurant. Upon talking with Gittens, he informed Police Officers he had been chased inside the restaurant by a woman wielding a baton-like stick.
Police Officers spoke with the woman, who informed them that Gittens had stolen a package that had been delivered to her home. The woman provided video footage of the incident, and Police Officers were able to identify Gittens as the suspect who stole the package. Gittens was charged on a complaint summons for the offense.
Just around three weeks later, on October 27, 2024, members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a report of a man acting irate and attempting to steal items from the Dollar General store in Atlantic City. Upon arrival, Police Officers approached the man, who admitted to attempting to steal items from the store. During the arrest procedure, Police Officers found multiple identification cards in his possession that did not belong to him and gave Police Officers conflicting names. The man was ultimately identified as Gittens.
