D.C. Metropolitan Police Charge Man With September 2024 Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- on Monday, March 24, 2025, a 42-year-old Bryan Road, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed following being charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man that occurred in mid-September of 2024 in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, shortly before 8:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Northeast District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a man being shot on the 400 Block of 50th Street in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a male victim, later identified as James Price, 44, with an unknown address, unresponsive, having succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound. Mr. Price was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by members of DC Fire and Emergency Services.
During The Investigation Detectives Identify Maryland Man As The Suspect
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch were able to identify Derek Turrentine, 42, of Bryan Road, Maryland, as the shooter and the individual responsible for the targeted shooting death of Mr. Price and an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.
Accordingly, on Monday, March 24, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Turrentine pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant.
Following being taken into custody, Turrentine was formally charged with first-degree Murder While Armed. Turrentine was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
