WASHINGTON, DC.- The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has arrested and charged a 33-year-old District Heights, Maryland man, and a 39-year-old Southeast, D.C. man in connection with the brazen Tuesday morning theft of an ATM outside of a business in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, shortly after 5:15 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 5200 Block of Georgia Avenue in Northwest, D.C.
Police Officers Learn Suspects Stole ATM
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that multiple suspects threatened an employee at a business located on the 5200 Block of Georgia Avenue and stole an ATM outside the business by chaining it to their vehicle. The suspects fled with the ATM in a white Ford F-250 pickup truck.
A short time later, just around 5:30 a.m., Fifth District Police Officers spotted the suspects’ vehicle near the intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road in Northeast, D.C., and initiated a pursuit. Police Officers immediately requested assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department’s helicopter, Falcon 1, and Police Officers began tracking the vehicle from the air.
The chase extended through Maryland and into Virginia, with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies. At around 6:49 a.m., the Ford F-250 came to a stop in the 2300 Block of Raynolds Place in Southeast, D.C. The suspects jumped out of the truck and fled on foot. Police Officers quickly apprehended two of the suspects without incident nearby.
Police File Charges Against Taylor And Peterson
Accordingly, Justin Taylor, 33, of District Heights, Maryland, and Hosea Peterson, 39, of Southeast, D.C., were both charged with Theft; Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle; and Felony Receiving Stolen Property. Peterson was additionally charged with Reckless Driving; Leaving After Colliding; Fleeing from Law Enforcement; and Assault on a Police Officer. Taylor and Peterson were processed on the charges and were remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
Police Officers recovered the ATM and the Ford F-250. During a subsequent investigation, Detectives learned that the pickup truck had been stolen earlier this month from Montgomery County, Maryland. Detectives are working with surrounding law enforcement agencies to determine whether the suspects are connected to other offenses.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, with two suspects remaining on the run. Anyone with information regarding this investigation or the identities and whereabouts of the two remaining suspects is asked to contact the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. All calls and texts will be kept confidential.
