Philadelphia Man Convicted Conspiring To Distribute 10 Kilograms Of Cocaine

CAMDEN, NJ.- On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, following a bench trial in the U.S. Federal District Court in Camden, New Jersey, a 48-year-old former Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, man was convicted of a federal narcotics violation.
Marvin Murphy, 48, was found guilty of Conspiring to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Cocaine. Following being convicted, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Renee Marie Bumb ordered Murphy to be detained pending sentencing, which has been scheduled for July 17, 2025. At that time, Murphy faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.

According to U.S. Attorney John Giordano and charging documents filed with the district court, beginning in June 2021 through July 13, 2021, Murphy conspired with Carl Lee Holloway, Lavinston Lamar, and others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine. During that time, on June 23, 2021, Holloway traveled to San Diego, California, to meet with an undercover federal agent who he believed was an illicit narcotics supplier.
Holloway and the undercover agent discussed arranging a drug deal in New Jersey, during which the undercover agent would deliver at least ten kilograms of cocaine to Holloway and his associates. During the meeting in San Diego, Holloway called Murphy, and the two proceeded to communicate about the cocaine deal over the next few weeks.
On July 13, 2021, Holloway, Murphy, and Lamar separately arrived at a Mount Laurel, New Jersey hotel, each carrying bags of cash totaling over $340,000. The three met with the undercover agent inside a hotel room, during which they inspected one of the kilograms previously brought into the room by the undercover agent, after which other agents entered the room and arrested Holloway, Murphy, and Lamar.
Judge Bumb previously sentenced Holloway to 120 months in federal prison for his role in the conspiracy and Lamar to 114 months in federal prison, which was later reduced to 100 months for his role in the conspiracy and violating the terms of his supervised release on a from a prior conviction for conspiring to distribute cocaine.
