Freeport Man Sentenced For West Virginia Drug Conspiracy

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Brian Ellis Jones, 44, of Freeport, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge David A. Faber to 216 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston and charging documents filed with the district court, beginning in and around March 15, 2023, and lasting through June 24, 2023, Jones sent eleven packages containing methamphetamine from New York to co-conspirator Jason Todd Painter in Clendenin, West Virginia.
Jones Admitted During Plea To Conspiring To Distributing Meth
During his plea allocution, Jones admitted that the packages contained at least 33 pounds of methamphetamine. Painter kept some of the controlled substance for himself and held the rest for Jones to pick up. Additionally, Jones admitted that he directed Painter to deliver amounts of methamphetamine to other individuals throughout the Kanawha County, West Virginia area.
On July 15, 2023, Jones shipped a package through the United States Postal Service from New York to Clendenin, West Virginia. Law enforcement intercepted the package and found it to contain methamphetamine. On July 18, 2023, law enforcement investigators arrested Jones and found $1,133 on him. Jones admitted that he possessed the cash and that it was the proceeds of his illicit narcotics activities.
On November 13, 2024, Painter of Clendenin, West Virginia, was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine.
