Reading Men Charged In Large-Scale Fentanyl Pill Distribution Operation

MAHWAH, NJ.- On Sunday, March 30, 2025, following a narcotics investigation, a 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both of Reading, Pennsylvania, were taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with transporting over 10,000 deadly fentanyl pills into Bergen County, New Jersey.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, during the course of an ongoing narcotics investigation, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force identified a vehicle that was involved with the transport and distribution of illicit narcotics.
Police Conduct Traffic Stop And Find 14,000 Fentanyl Pills
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Detectives, with the assistance of the Mahwah Police Department, located and conducted a traffic stop on the suspected vehicle on Interstate 287 in Mahwah, New Jersey. During the traffic stop, Detectives of the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force, along with members of the Mahwah Police Department, identified the occupants of the vehicle as Edgar Holguin-Reyes, 30, and Yakayra Reyes, 27, both of Reading, Pennsylvania.
During a court-authorized search of the vehicle, Detectives uncovered and seized approximately 14,000 fentanyl pills with an estimated street value of around $420,000.
Accordingly, following the seizure of the Illicit narcotics, Edgar Holguin-Reyes and Yakayra Reyes were taken into custody and charged with second-degree Possession with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl-Laced Pills. Following being processed on the charges both men were remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
