ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- Today, April 3, 2025, following a nearly seven-month investigation, a 24-year-old Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, man employed as an Atlantic City Police Officer was taken into custody and jailed following being charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman that occurred in September 2024.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, Joshua Munyon, 24, of Egg Harbor Township, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; second-degree Sexual Assault; and second-degree Official Misconduct.

Charges Stem From An Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that began on September 13, 2024, when an adult female with the initials A.L. came forward and reported to the Atlantic City Police Department that she was sexually assaulted by Officer Munyon after having multiple contacts with him earlier that morning while he was on duty as an Atlantic City Police Officer.

During her statement to the Police, A.L. reported after Officer Munyon served her with a summons for being intoxicated at the Tropicana Casino, he transported her to a parking lot within the City of Atlantic City. While there, Officer Munyon sexually assaulted her. A.L. showed injuries to her wrists from being handcuffed during the sexual assault, as well as chipped toenails due to the position she was in when the assault occurred inside Officer Munyon’s patrol vehicle.

Following sexually assaulting her, Officer Munyon drove A.L. back to the Tropicana Casino, where she disclosed what happened to Tropicana security staff, who then notified the Atlantic City Police Department. Shortly thereafter, Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit responded and launched an investigation.

Further investigation uncovered video surveillance footage depicting A.L. getting in and out of Officer Munyon’s patrol vehicle, as well as location data recovered from his patrol vehicle detailing his route of travel and corroborating statements made by A.L.

Witness statements further revealed Officer Munyon denied to his supervisors that A.L. was ever placed under arrest or inside his Police vehicle.

On Thursday, Munyon was taken into custody and charged. Following being processed on the charges, Munyon was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
