Friday, April 4, 2025, 7:30 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, following a five-month investigation, two Newark, New Jersey, women were taken into custody and charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the morning hours of Thursday, October 31, 2024, in Jersey City, New Jersey, which claimed the life of a 43-year-old motorcyclist.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Shaneeka Croom, 47, of Newark, New Jersey, was formally charged with Causing Death While Driving with a Suspended License; False Reporting; Obstruction; and Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution. Elnoria Croom-Lundy, 65, of Newark, New Jersey, was formally charged with Obstruction; and Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution of Another.

Both Women Were Charged At The Prosecutor’s Office

Both women were taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, processed on the charges, and released on a summons complaint, pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Thursday, October 31, 2024, when shortly before 9:00 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Route 1&9 at the intersection of Sip Avenue in Jersey City.

Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that a motorcycle and a GMC passenger vehicle collided near the intersection. The injured motorcyclist, later identified as Steven Brown, 43, of Jersey City, New Jersey, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Brown succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly before 10:00 a.m.

During the investigation, Shaneeka Croom reported to responding Police Officers that she was a passenger in the GMC at the time of the collision. Elnoria Croom-Lundy had arrived and told Police Officers she was driving the GMC. As a result of a months-long investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit determined that Shaneeka Croom was the operator of the vehicle and was driving on a suspended driver’s license at the time and that Elnoria Croom-Lundy was not present at the time of the crash.
