WASHINGTON, DC.- Police have charged a 34-year-old Southeast, D.C. man in connection with the Thursday afternoon drug-fueled stabbing rampage that left six people injured in the Trinidad neighborhood in Northeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, April 3, 2025, just shortly before 3:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to reports of multiple people being stabbed on the 1200 Block of Meigs Place in Northeast, D.C.

Police Find Six People Stabbed

Upon arrival, Police Officers located and quickly began administering lifesaving care to the victims. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and transported four women and two men to area hospitals for treatment. All six victims remain hospitalized and have been listed in stable condition.

During the initial investigation, Police Officers learned that the suspect, later identified as Kevin Steve Andrade, 34, of Southeast, D.C., was under the influence of an unknown substance while he was walking with a female acquaintance on the 1200 Block of Meigs Place in Northeast, D.C.

Suddenly, without warning, Andrade pulled out a knife and began to violently stab his female acquaintance, then stabbed himself. Andrade then began to make threatening statements and ran to a group of bystanders, where he stabbed four additional people and fled northbound on Montello Avenue, where he stabbed the sixth individual.

Following the sixth stabbing, a group of people from the community chased Andrade and were able to subdue him before he was able to reach a group of people who were near the intersection of Montello Avenue and Mt. Olivet Road in Northeast, D.C.

Members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District Crime Suppression Team noticed the group subduing Andrade and quickly took Andrade into custody without incident and recovered the knife used in the attacks. Andrade was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening self-inflicted stab wounds.

Detectives have formally charged Andrade with six counts of Assault with Intent to Kill. Upon Andrade’s release from the hospital, he will be processed on the charges and remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
