Sunday, April 6, 2025, 10:00 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, following the continuing investigation into a Northwest, D.C., homicide, D.C. Metropolitan Police Cold Case Detectives arrested and charged a 54-year-old Northwest, D.C., man in connection with the 1992 beating and stabbing death of a 19-year-old Falls Church, Virginia man.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, March 31, 1992, members of the Prince George’s County Police Department discovered the lifeless body of a man, later identified as Ricardo Burbano, 19, of Falls Church, Virginia, in the rear of a property in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Following the discovery, Mr. Burbano’s body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, Maryland. At that time, the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Mr. Burbano’s Death to be Manual Asphyxiation, Multiple Sharp Force Injuries, and Blunt Force Trauma and ruled the Manner of Death Homicide.

During the ensuing investigation, at that time, it was determined that the homicide occurred inside a residence located on the 100 Block of Q Street in Northwest, D.C. After months of investigation, the investigation of the case went cold.

First Suspect Arrested 30 Years After The Murder

Thirty years later, in 2022, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Cold Case Unit identified a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained for a 47-year-old Wimauma, Florida, man, charging him with first-degree Murder. On October 20, 2022, the man was extradited to Washington, D.C., and was formally charged with the offense.

Second Suspect Arrested On Tuesday

During the years-long investigation, Cold Case Detectives identified Tyrone Long, 54, of Northwest, D.C., as a second suspect in the brutal killing of Mr. Burbano. Accordingly, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court Grand Jury Indictment, members of the United States Marshals Service located and arrested Long. Following being taken into custody, Long was transported to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, where he was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder in connection with his role in the homicide.

Long was processed on the charge and was remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the murder of Mr. Burbano is urged to contact the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. All calls and texts will be kept confidential.
