Berryville Man Charged With Sexually Groping Bergen County Teen

ALLENDALE, NJ.- On Wednesday, following an investigation into alleged child sex crimes, a 52-year-old Berryville, Virginia, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with sexually fondling a teen in Allendale, New Jersey.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Friday, March 21, 2025, members of the Allendale Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after receiving a report of an allegation of the sexual abuse of a teen child that had occurred in 2024, in Allendale, New Jersey.

Investigation Uncovers Child Sex Crimes

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allendale Police Department, and following interviewing witnesses, including the child victim, determined that Jose G. Sanchez, 52, of Berryville, Virginia, sexually abused a child under the age of sixteen in Allenwood, New Jersey in November 2024.

     Accordingly, on Monday, April 7, 2025, Detectives charged Sanchez with one count of third-degree Criminal Sexual Contact; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 

     On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allenwood Police Department traveled to Virginia and, with the assistance of the Clark County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department, located and arrested Sanchez in Berryville, Virginia. Sanchez was lodged in the Clark County Jail on a fugitive justice warrant, pending extradition to New Jersey to stand trial on the child sex crime charges.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
