Charleston Man Pleads Guilty To Possessing & Distributing Meth

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- Last Friday, a 45-year-old Charleston, West Virginia, man found out that he will be facing up to 40 years in federal prison when sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing methamphetamine within the Southern District of West Virginia.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston, on Friday, April 4, 2025, Anteaun Winbush, 45, of Charleston, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Court Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr., to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of a Substance Containing Methamphetamine.
Winbush Admits To Possessing Illicit Narcotics
During his plea allocution last Friday, Winbush admitted that he possessed around 141.8 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine at multiple locations in Putnam County, West Virginia, on March 25, 2024, and that he had intended to distribute the illicit narcotic.
Winbush further admitted to possessing around 227 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, eight grams of cocaine, and 14.7 grams of fentanyl in Jackson County, West Virginia, on October 4, 2021, and that he intended to distribute the controlled substances.
After entering his guilty plea last Friday, Judge Copenhaver accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for July 9, 2025. At that time, Winbush faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison, at least four years of supervised release, and a $5 million fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Winbush’s prior criminal history.

Acting U.S. Attorney Johnston commended the investigative work of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Charleston Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation and arrest that led to Winbush’s guilty plea on April 4, 2025.
