Man Charged With Saturday Morning Southeast Business Burglary

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, a 59-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and charged shortly after he broke into a business located on the 2000 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, just shortly after 5:00 a.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a burglary in progress at a business located on the 2000 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

Responding Police Officers Inside The Business

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a suspect, identified as Francis Smith, 59, of Southeast, D.C., inside the business. Upon seeing the Police, Smith attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by responding Police Officers.

     After being taken into custody, Smith was formally charged with one count of second-degree Burglary; and Destruction of Property. Smith was processed on the charges, and his custody status was not reported at the time of his being processed on the charges.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
