Police Investigating The Beating Death Of Northeast D.C. Woman

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, April 14, 2025, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith reported that Detectives are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 54-year-old woman who was found dead on a Northeast, D.C. street.
According to the initial Police report, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, just minutes after 5:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive woman on the 600 Block of Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast, D.C.
Police Find Woman Dead From Head Injury
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found the lifeless body of a woman, later identified as Thameka Harvell, 54, of Northeast, D.C., on the ground, having succumbed to an apparent head injury. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services pronounced Ms. Harvell deceased at the scene.
Ms. Harvell’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Following an autopsy late last week, the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the Cause of Death was Blunt Force Trauma to the Head, with other contributing factors, and the Manner of Death was Homicide.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made as Detectives are continuing the search for a suspect and a motive for the murder.
