VINELAND, NJ.- On Monday, a 19-year-old Vineland, New Jersey, man will be spending the next decade in New Jersey State Prison after he was sentenced for the attempted murder of a Vineland, New Jersey, teen back in December of 2021.
According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, on Monday, April 14, 2025, Tahj’mere Chance, 19, of Vineland, New Jersey, appeared in Cumberland County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Niki Arbitter to 10 years in State Prison, after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree Attempted Murder.
In handing down the sentence on Monday, Judge Arbitter ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Chance to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole, and further ordered both counts to run concurrently with each other.
Investigation Results In The Identification Of Chance
The guilty plea and sentence stem from an investigation that began when, on December 21, 2021, members of the Vineland Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 700 Block of Wood Street in Vineland. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a juvenile male having sustained a life-threatening gunshot.
During the investigation, area surveillance video was recovered that captured two males exiting a vehicle and walking in the direction of the victim. Thereafter, gunfire was heard, and it was revealed that the two males were running back to their vehicle. Police Officers were able to track the vehicle to a residence in Vineland belonging to Chance’s mother.
During a subsequent search of the residence, Police Officers and Detectives recovered two firearms from inside the residence as well as clothing matching one of the male suspects that were captured on video. A subsequent ballistics analysis determined that one of the firearms matched evidence recovered from the shooting victim. The clothing found in the residence, as seen in the video, was later determined to belong to Chance. Chance and his co-defendant J.C. were later charged. The charges filed against J.C. are pending trial.
Just a little over a week later, on December 30, 2021, Police Officers responded to Inspira Health after a female victim had arrived with a stab wound. Police Officers learned she had just returned to Chance’s residence to pick up her child. After arriving at the residence, a verbal altercation broke out between the victim and Chance’s mother and sister.
The argument escalated into a physical assault when Chance ran towards the fight and stabbed the victim with a knife, puncturing her lung. The entire altercation and stabbing were captured on a Ring camera.
