WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were both taken into custody and charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery of a Benning Road store that occurred earlier in the day in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, April 14, 2025, shortly after 8:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an armed robbery of a store located on the 2500 Block of Benning Road in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by an employee that two young juvenile boys had entered the store shortly around 8:00 a.m., pulled out a handgun, and demanded money. The employee complied, allowing the two juvenile suspects to take money from the cash register before the suspects fled the scene.
Based on the ensuing investigation and video surveillance footage recovered, Detectives were able to identify the suspects. Accordingly, later in the day on Monday, Detectives arrested an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy and formally charged both with robbery.
The teens were processed on the charges and were released to their parents pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, Family Law Division.
“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and as in adult criminal cases, a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
