New York City Man Sentenced For Distributing Crack Cocaine In Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT.- Last Thursday, a New York City, man learned he would be spending nearly the next six years in federal prison after being sentenced for attempting to distribute crack cocaine and deadly fentanyl in the Bennington County, Vermont area.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Owin Thomas, of New York, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William K. Sessions, III, to 70 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to a federal narcotics violation.
Thomas Previously Pleaded Guilty To Federal Drug Crime
Thomas had previously appeared in Federal Court in Burlington, Vermont and pleaded guilty before Judge Sessions to Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and Fentanyl.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Dresher and charging documents filed with the District Court, on August 8, 2022, Thomas was arrested in a motel room in Bennington, Vermont. During a subsequent court-authorized search of Thomas’ motel room, law enforcement investigators found and seized 27.74 grams of bulk packaged crack cocaine, and 8.82 grams of bulk packaged fentanyl.
Also during the search, law enforcement investigators found a backpack that belonged to Thomas that contained empty wax envelopes that are commonly utilized for packaging narcotics for street sales. Also inside the back was a digital scale and a knife.
