Metropolitan Special Police Officer Charged In Grocery Assault

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 49-year-old Mettopolitan Special Police Officer was taken into custody and charged in connection with assaulting a fellow employee at a Northwest, D.C., grocery store.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, shortly after 12:30 a.m., a Special Police Officer and the victim were both working at a grocery store located within the 1800 Block of Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest, D.C.
At that time the special police officer and the victim were involved in a dispute, when the special police officer unholstered his service issued firearm and pointed it at the victim. The victim walked away from the officer. During the remainder of their shift, the officer assaulted the victim multiple times by making unwanted contact. The victim reported to Detectives that they were uninjured during the assaults.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, based on the Detectives investigation, Raeford Bush, 49, of Southeast, D.C. was taken into custody and formally charged with Simple Assault; and Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. Bush was processed on the charges and was released on a complaint summons pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
