Man Charged For Early April Northwest Sexual Assaults

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 31-year-old accused sexual predator was taken into custody and charged in connection with two sexual assaults that occurred earlier this month in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, shortly before 8:30 a.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District responded to a report of a sexual assault on the 500 Block of 12th Street in Northwest, D.C. Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that the suspect made unwanted sexual contact with them and then fled the scene after committing the sex crime. 

     Again, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District responded to a report of a sexual assault on the 1100 Block of K Street in Northwest D.C. Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that while in the 1100 Block of K Street, they were approached by an unknown man, who made unwanted sexual contact with them before fleeing the scene.

     During a swift-moving investigation, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Devonte Antonio Sterling, 31, with no known address. On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Second District Police Officers spotted Sterling and took him into custody. Based on the Detectives’ investigation, Sterling was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Sexual Abuse.

     Sterling was processed on the charges, and his current custody status is unknown.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
