Police Charge Teen In Southeast D.C. Shooting

Teen Charged In Easter Sunday Southeast, Call Place Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 17-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy was taken into custody and charged as an adult in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy that occurred in the late afternoon hours of Easter Sunday in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, shortly after 5:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to a report of a shooting on the 5300 Block of Call Place in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders located a 16-year-old boy suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The boy was immediately transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injury. 

Thomas Identified As Shooter And Charged As An Adult

     During the subsequent investigation, Police Officers and Detectives, based upon witness interviews, Detectives were able to identify the shooter as Travis Thomas, 17, of Southeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Police Officers located and arrested Thomas. Accordingly, Thomas was formally charged as an adult under Title 16 with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

     Thomas was processed on the charge, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia. Thomas’ custody status was not reported.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
