Police Charge Teens In Northeast D.C. Robbery

Two Teens Charged In Thursday Northeast Snatch & Grab Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, both of Northeast, D.C., were both taken into custody and charged shortly after robbing a victim of their headphones on the Metropolitan Branch Trail.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a robbery along the Metropolitan Branch Trail in Northeast, D.C.

Victim Provides Description Of Teens To Police

     Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that while walking along the trail near Rhode Island Avenue, they were approached by multiple teen suspects on bicycles. One of the suspects, while on his bike, quickly grabbed their headphones from their head and fled the scene on bicycles down the trail.

     Based on a description provided by the victim, the Real Time Crime Center located video footage of the suspects. Police officers patrolling the area of the Metropolitan Branch Trail spotted the suspects and arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, both from Northeast, D.C., and formally charged them with Robbery.

     The teens were processed on the charges and were released to their legal guardians, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Division.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and as in adult criminal cases, a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
