Ashland Man Charged With Transporting Child Pornography

Monday, April 28, 2025, 6:15 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

BOSTON, MA.- On Wednesday, a 36-year-old Ashland, Massachusetts, man, if convicted, is facing up to 20 years in federal prison after being taken into custody and charged in connection with arriving at Boston’s Logan International Airport late last year and being found in possession of digital images and video files containing the sexual exploitation and abuse of young children on his cellular phone.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Brent Vreeland, 36, of Ashland, was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of Transportation of Child Pornography. Vreeland made his initial appearance in Federal Court in Boston, Massachusetts, and was ordered detained.

According To U.S. Attorney Leah B. Thompson

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and the charging information filed in the criminal complaint, Vreeland was flagged for a secondary screening at Boston’s Logan Airport upon arrival from Reykjavik, Iceland, in October 2024. It is alleged that during a review of Vreeland’s cellular phone, digital images, and video files, child pornography was found in his Telegram Messenger Application.

A subsequent forensic examination of the cellular phone uncovered around 30 media files depicting the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in direct messages with unknown Telegram users. It is further alleged that Vreeland received and distributed at least three of the videos in October 2021 depicting the sexual abuse of young children between the ages of four and 10 years old. In one exchange, Vreeland allegedly asked another user to trade child pornography files for “the youngest they had.”

If convicted at trial, Vreeland faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least five years and up to life of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. At sentencing, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge would determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Vreeland’s prior criminal history, if any.

“The rules of the federal court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
