RUTLAND, VT.- On Tuesday, April 28, 2025, Alex Patin-Patin, 28, an Ecuadorian national illegally residing in South Burlington, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mary Kay Lanthier to time served for Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.
Patin-Patin, who had been detained since his February 5, 2025, arrest. Previously appeared in Federal Court in Rutland, Vermont, and pleaded guilty to the charge. He will now face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the country.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Dresher and charging information filed with the District Court, Patin-Patin is an Ecuadorian national who unlawfully entered the United States near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in February 2022. Patin-Patin was ordered removed by a U.S. Immigration Judge in June 2022, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement Removal Operations removed him from the United States around July 7, 2022.
It is unknown where and when Patin-Patin reentered the United States, but in April 2024, Patin-Patin was arrested in South Burlington, Vermont, on an unrelated criminal offense.
Because Patin-Patin had reentered the United States without obtaining permission or legal authorization, his presence in the United States was a felony violation of federal law.
