Honduran Man Facing Removal After Being Sentenced For Illegal Reentry

PITTSBURGH, PA.- A 27-year-old Honduran national learned he will be heading back to Honduras after pleading guilty and being sentenced on Tuesday to being illegally in the country by a previously deported alien.
On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Luis Fernando Diaz-Garcia, 27, of Honduras, illegally residing in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Court Judge Nora Barry Fischer to Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.
Following entering his guilty plea on Tuesday, Judge Fischer immediately sentenced Diaz-Garcia to time served and ordered him to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be removed from the country. Díaz-Garcia has remained in federal custody since his arrest on January 27, 2025.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti and charging information filed in the District Court, Diaz-Garcia was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol as well as other traffic violations, including driving without a license, after he nearly side-swiped a marked police vehicle, those charges remain pending.
Following his arrest, immigration officials determined that Diaz-Garcia was illegally in the United States and arrested him on January 27, 2025. Diaz-Garcia was previously removed from the United States on November 13, 2019, and had not received permission or authorization to be in the United States. Diaz-Garcia has been in federal custody since his January arrest on the illegal reentry charge and will now be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement Removal Operations to be removed from the country.
