FORT LEE, NJ.- On Friday, following an ongoing investigation, a second 16-year-old student was taken into custody and charged in connection with his involvement in the April 8, 2025, brutal stabbing of another student inside a restroom at the Fort Lee High School

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, as previously reported, during the morning hours on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, members of the Fort Lee Police Department responded to an Emergency Call from a uniformed officer assigned to Fort Lee High School. The School Resource Officer requested assistance following a stabbing at the school, and additional police units responded, including assistance from neighboring towns.

Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a male juvenile student had been stabbed multiple times. First Responders and school security personnel provided life-saving measures before the victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The teen student has since recovered from his wounds.

During the incident, the school was placed on lockdown. The suspect, who was identified as a 16-year-old student, was apprehended on the scene. A subsequent investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fort Lee Police Department uncovered that the suspect and the victim were in a school restroom and engaged in an altercation that quickly escalated when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, causing serious injuries.

Initial Investigation Leads To Student Being Charged

Following the initial investigation, the 16-year-old student was formally charged on April 8, 2025, with juvenile delinquency on the charges of first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assualt; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Continuing Investigation Leads To Second Student Being Charged

After the charges were filed against the teen, Detectives continued their investigation and determined that an additional student was involved in the planning and execution of the stabbing. The additional suspect is also a 16-year-old Fort Lee High School Student.

Accordingly, on Friday, May 2, 2025, the second student was taken into protective custody and formally charged with juvenile delinquency on the charges of first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The student was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division.
