Elizabeth Man Dies Of Injuries After Being Found Shot In His Car Saturday Afternoon

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 39-year-old Elizabeth, New Jersey, man who was found shot in his car in the Greenville section of Jersey City.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, just shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street in Jersey City.
Police Find Elizabeth Man Shot In His Car
Upon arrival, Police Officers located an unresponsive man, later identified as Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree on Merritt Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, Police Officers discovered that Mr. Reid had sustained a gunshot wound to his neck.
Mr. Reid was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Reid tragically succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased shortly after 7:00 p.m. The Cause and Manner of Mr. Reid’s Death are pending findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
