HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- A 43-year-old Huntington, West Virginia, man will be spending the next six years in federal prison after being sentenced yesterday for selling fentanyl to a confidential informant in June of 2023.

On Monday, May 5, 2025, Beecher Lee Shuler, 43, of Huntington, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to 72 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Fentanyl.

According To Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston and charging documents filed with the District Court, on June 21, 2023, during an ongoing investigation, Shuler sold around 3.48 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant in exchange for $275.00 during a controlled buy under the observation of law enforcement.

Following the controlled buy on July 1, 2023, law enforcement investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search at Shuler’s Huntington home. During the search, investigators located and seized quantities of cocaine, oxycodone, at least 3,787 tablets containing protonitazene, six firearms, and around $1,111 in U.S. currency.

Protonitazene is a synthetic opioid that is potentially more dangerous and deadly than fentanyl, and the seized tablets weighed just around 813 grams.

During his previous plea allocution, Shuler admitted to the court that he conducted the transaction at his Huntington, West Virginia, residence and arranged it with the confidential informant prior to the sale. Shuler further admitted to possession of the controlled substances that were found in his home and that he intended to distribute them.
