ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, on Monday, May 5, 2025, that Shamar Scott, 29, of Galloway, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Donna M. Taylor to 45 years in New Jersey State Prison on his conviction for fatally gunning down Demond Tally, 45, of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In handing down the sentence on Monday, Judge Taylor ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Scott to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
Jury Finds Scott Guilty
On March 13, 2025, following a trial in Atlantic County Superior Court before Judge Taylor, a Jury found Scott guilty of first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Following the Jury returning their findings of guilt, Scott stipulated to his prior criminal convictions and agreed to the fact that he was guilty of the charge of Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Police Find Tally Shot Multiple Time On The Street
The conviction and Monday’s sentence stem from an investigation that began on February 10, 2019, when just shortly after 5:00 a.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire and a man lying in the street on Presbyterian Avenue in the City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Mr. Tally, lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Tally was transported to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Scott must serve an additional five years of parole supervision upon his release from prison. He has remained detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since his arrest in October 2020 on an unrelated matter and will now be transferred to the custody of the New Jersey Department of Corrections to serve his term of imprisonment.
