Father Killed Son In Custody In Jersey City Saturday Night Shooting

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are continuing to look for answers to what led a 25-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man to fatally shoot his 52-year-old father inside his apartment in the Greenville section of Jersey City.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, shortly around 8:15 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting at an apartment building located at 117-121 Wade Street in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City.
Police Find Man Dead Inside Apartment
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, identified as Gerard Booker, Sr., 52, of Jersey City, unresponsive inside an apartment unit, having succumbed from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Booker was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Son Charged In Shooting Death Of His Father
During the initial investigation, Detectives identified Mr. Booker’s son, Gerard Booker, Jr., 25, of Jersey City, New Jersey, as a person of interest. Accordingly, he was apprehended in Manhattan, New York, around 2:40 a.m., Sunday morning. Detectives have formally charged Booker, Jr., with one count of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Booker, Jr. is currently in the custody of the New York City Department of Corrections pending extradition to New Jersey.
