Police Charge Man In Columbia Heights Saturday Night Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 21-year-old Southeast, D.C., man in connection with a shooting that occurred late Saturday night in Columbia Heights, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, just shortly after 11:45 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a report of gunfire in an alley in the rear of the 1300 Block of Columbia Road in Northwest, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene. A short time later, Police Officers located an adult male inside a residence suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Southeast, D.C., Man Charged With The Shooting
   During the initial investigation, Police Officers located a suspect in the area and placed him under arrest. Following the Detectives’ follow-up investigation, Kyiel Kearny, 21, of Southeast, D.C., was formally charged with one count of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon.
Kearny was processed on the charge and was remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
