Police Charge Two Teens In Friday’s Southeast Armed Carjacking

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, a 15-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy and a 14-year-old Glenarden, Maryland boy were taken into custody and charged in connection with last Friday’s brazen midday Navy Yard armed carjacking that occurred in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, May 9, 2025, shortly after 12:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking on the 1200 Block of 4th Street in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who informed Officers that while exiting their vehicle on the 1200 Block of 4th Street, they were approached by the suspects. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and demanded the car keys. The victim complied with the suspects’ demands. After getting the keys, the suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Police Locate Carjacked Vehicle And Charge Teens

     On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District and members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit located the carjacked vehicle and arrested the two teen suspects. During the arrest, Police Officers recovered the handgun.

     As a result of the investigation, Detectives formally charged a 15-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy with Armed Carjacking, and a 14-year-old Glenarden, Maryland, boy with one count of Armed Carjacking; Carrying a Firearm Without a License; and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and as in adult criminal cases, a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
