Thursday, May 15, 2025, 6:45 A.M. ET. 3 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Sunday, May 11, 2025, a 41-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both of Gloucester Township, New Jersey, were taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a years-long reign of sexual and physical abuse of a child inside their Township home.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Gloucester Township Police Department were notified of an 18-year-old girl who reported to authorities that she had been held captive in her home for several years and was the victim of sexual and physical abuse.

During the investigation, the girl told Detectives that Brenda Spencer, 38, and Branndon Mosley, 41, had been abusing her since around 2018. Around that time, she was removed from school in the sixth grade at Spencer’s discretion and confined within her home. She stated that shortly after that, she was forced to live in a dog crate for around a year and was only let out periodically.

The girl further told Detectives she was later forced to live in a padlocked bathroom while being chained up. She said she would be let out of the bathroom when family members visited the residence. At other times, she was forced to live in a bare room with just a bucket instead of a toilet. She explained the bare room had an alarm system that would alert Spencer and Mosley if she tried to leave. She also reported being beaten with a belt as well as being sexually abused by Mosley.

The abuse occurred for years until she was able to escape the home on Thursday, May 8, 2025, and was assisted by a neighbor. She later disclosed the abuse to the neighbor, who reported it to law enforcement authorities.

Police Search House And Find Unbearable Conditions

Following being notified, Detectives obtained and executed a court-authorized search of the residence and found that the girl was subjected to living in squalid conditions alongside numerous dogs, chinchillas, and other animals. During the investigation, Detectives also learned that a 13-year-old girl, who also lived in the home, was removed from school years earlier at Spencer’s request as well. Both girls were allegedly homeschooled.

Spencer, who is not employed, and Mosely, who is employed by SEPTA as a train conductor, were taken at their residence on Sunday, May 11, 2025, and both were formally charged with Kidnapping; Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping; Aggravated Assault; five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Abuse/Neglect; Criminal Restraint; Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon; Possession with a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Mosley was additionally charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault; two counts of Sexual Assault; and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, by Sexual Contact.

Spencer and Mosley were processed on the charges and were remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Spencer and Mosley pending trial.
