Police Makes Arrest In May 5th Southeast D.C. Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 22-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with shooting a woman earlier this month in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, May 5, 2025, shortly around 3:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to reports of a shooting on the 1600 Block of W Street in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Woman Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a woman suffering a gunshot wound. The woman was immediately transported by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment and continues to recover at home.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives and Police Officers were able to recover area surveillance video footage of the shooting and the suspect then fleeing in a vehicle. Based on the video footage, Detectives identified the suspect as LaDarrius Whitaker, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Metropolitan Police Detectives, with the assistance of the United States Park Police, located and arrested Whitaker. As a result of the investigation, Whitaker was formally charged with one count of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon; and Destruction of Property.
Whitaker was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
