2 Dead, 9 Injured In Early Friday Morning Vehicle Crash In Kearny

KEARNY, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has confirmed that the Hudson County Regional Collision  Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding a multi-vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning, that claimed the lives of two individuals and left another nine injured.

     According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, on Friday, May 16, 2025, just shortly after 3:30 a.m., members of the Kearny Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a serious multi-vehicle crash in the area of 490 Newark-Jersey City Turnpike in Kearny.

Police Find Two Dead And Seven Injured In Crash

     Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders located two vehicles, a BMW sedan and a Ford Transit van, that had collided in the roadway. The driver of the BMW, a man, and his female passenger sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The two were pronounced deceased at the scene at around 4:45 a.m. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

     The Transit Van contained nine occupants from Canada and New York State. Seven were transported by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital in neighboring Newark, New Jersey, and two others were transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where they are being treated for their injuries. One of the injured remains in critical but stable condition.
