According Charging Documents A Statements Made In Court
According to charging documents and statements made in the Superior Court, on July 15, 2018, a 22-year-old woman returned home from a night out with friends shortly after 2:30 a.m. and shortly thereafter heard a knock at her basement door. When she opened the door, Gomez, who was armed with a knife, grabbed her, forced her to the ground, and forcibly sexually assaulted her.
During the assault, Gomez cut the woman’s left cheek with the knife. Ultimately, the woman escaped into her home after kicking Gomez several times and called 911.
On September 7, 2018, at around 11:40 p.m., Gomez followed his second victim as she walked from the Fort Totten Metro train station into the nearby 7-11 located at 5210 3rd Street in Northeast, D.C., and then followed her after she left the 7-11. Once, in a nearby wooded area on the 100 Block Farragut Street, Northeast, Gomez grabbed the woman, pulled her into a wooded area, pulled out a knife, and ordered her to take off her pants. With a knife to her throat and one hand around her neck, Gomez forcibly raped her.
Gomez fled the scene after the woman received numerous phone calls, which she told Gomez were from a relative who would come looking for her if she did not answer. A short time later, the woman flagged down Police Officers who were patrolling the area.
On October 21, 2018, shortly around 6:30 a.m., Gomez’s third victim was waiting at the corner of 7th and Longfellow Streets in Northwest, D.C., for an Uber rideshare to take her to work. As the woman waited alone, Gomez approached her and asked her if she was okay and what she was doing. Once the woman told Gomez she was waiting for an Uber, Gomez continued to speak to her, eventually telling him to leave her alone.
When the woman began walking back toward her apartment building, Gomez followed her and then grabbed her by the throat and squeezed. The woman could not breathe. Gomez dragged her into an alley and forced her to the ground, where he sexually assaulted her. Gomez then fled the area.
According to D.C. Police Chief Smith, these violent assaults were solved with a combination of DNA and other evidence. Once identified, Gomez was apprehended in Louisville, Kentucky, and extradited to Washington, D.C., and has remained in custody since his arrest.
