Southeast D.C. Man Faces Murder Charges After Man Dies Of Injuries

WASHINGTON, DC.- Last Monday, a 48-year-old Southeast, D.C., man initially charged in last month’s Navy Yard beating of a 77-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was additionally charged with murder after the man succumbed to his injuries sustained in the assault.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, shortly before 8:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Housing Authority Police Department responded to an apartment complex located on the 400 Block of M Street in Southeast, D.C., after receiving reports of a disorderly person at the location.

Police Officers Find Elderly Severely Beating

     Upon arrival, Housing Authority Officers found a man, later identified as Bernard Williams, 77, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive, suffering from multiple injuries from an assault. Mr. Williams was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. During the initial investigation, Officers were able to take the disorderly person into custody.

     Based on the ensuing investigation, Walter Parker, 48, of Southeast, D.C., was formally charged with Aggravated Assault; Carrying a Pistol Without a License; and Property Damage. Mr. Parker was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Williams Tragically Succumbs To His Injuries

     On Monday, April 28, 2025, after fighting for his life for five days, Mr. Williams tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, an autopsy was performed, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the Cause of Mr. Williams’ Death to be complications from Blunt Force Trauma and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

     Following an extensive investigation by Detectives in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, on Monday, May 12, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court Booking Order, Walker was charged with first-degree Murder. Walker was served with the charge at the D.C. Central Detention Facility.
