Man Fatally Gunned Down Sunday Night In Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- A 36-year-old Southeast, D.C. man became just another victim to fall prey to the continuing gun violence plaguing the Nation’s Capitol City after being fatally gunned down Sunday night on Benning Road in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, shortly after 9:45 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to the sounds of gunfire on the 4600 Block of Benning Road in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Man Shot Dead On The Street
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Ryan Matthews, 36, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Matthews was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Services.
A short time later, while investigating the scene, Detectives and Police Officers were notified that a man had arrived at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. During the initial investigation, Detectives determined that the man was shot during the same incident.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made as Detectives continue the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
