Jersey City Man Killed After Being Struck By A Vehicle In Sayreville

SAYREVILLE, NJ.- A 53-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man was tragically killed after being struck by a motor vehicle early Wednesday morning as he was attempting to fix his tractor-trailer on the Northbound lanes of the Edison Bridge in Sayreville, New Jersey.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, shortly before 5:00 a.m., members of the Sayreville Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on the Northbound side of the Edison Bridge on Route 9 in Sayreville.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Jamal Ebron, 53, of Jersey City, New Jersey, who had been fatally struck by a Hyundai Kona being operated by a 33-year-old Old Bridge, New Jersey man.
Police Determine That Man Was Struck While Fixing His Truck
During the initial investigation, Officer Nicholas Kales of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Ken McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that a tractor-trailer being operated by Mr. Ebron became disabled in the right lane of the roadway. While Mr. Ebron was outside and attempting to repair the truck, he was struck by the Hyundai Kona, killing him.
Mr. Ebron was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai Kona was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No charges have been filed or summonses issued at this time.
