D.C. Teenager Charged With Last May’s Southeast D.C. Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 31-year-old Northwest, D.C., teen boy was taken into custody and jailed after being charged as an adult in connection with shooting two men, one fatally, last May in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, May 5, 2024, just shortly after 7:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to reports of gunfire on the 3500 Block of Stanton Road in Southeast, D.C.

Police Find Evidence Of a Shooting

     Upon arrival, Police Officers were able to locate evidence of a shooting crime scene but were unable to locate any victim or victims. While investigating the scene, Police Officers were notified that two men had arrived at an area hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. One of the men, later identified as Anthony White, 31, of Northwest, D.C., succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. The other man was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and has since recovered.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch were able to identify Damari Thomas, 17, of Southeast, D.C., as the suspect and the individual responsible for the shooting death of Mr. White, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     Accordingly, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Thomas was located and taken into custody and charged as an adult with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed. Thomas was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
