Police Charge Man In January’s Northwest Armed Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- Last Wednesday, a 29-year-old Northeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a Facebook Marketplace armed robbery that occurred in January 2025 in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, January 27, 2025, a victim reported to Police Officers that around 4:30 p.m., they met with a suspect on the 1000 Block of I Street in Northwest, D.C., to make a sale of an item they were selling on the social media platform, Facebook Marketplace.
The victim told Police Officers when they took out the item, the suspect pulled out a handgun, grabbed the item, and then fled the scene.
Detectives Identify Kelly As The Suspect
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Brian Kelly, 29, of Northeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Kelly. Following being taken into custody, Kelly was formally charged with one count of Armed Robbery. Kelly was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
