Dominican Man Sentenced For Illegal Reentry Into The United States

SCRANTON, PA.- A 43-year-old Dominican national, illegally residing in Paterson, New Jersey, will be spending nearly three years in federal prison after being sentenced last Wednesday for illegally being in the United States after he was found last October in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

     According to Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Jose Rafael Polo-Sanchez, 43, a Dominican national illegally residing in Paterson, New Jersey, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

According To Documents Filed With The District Court

     According to the charging documents filed with the District Court, Polo-Sanchez, a citizen and national of the Dominican Republic, was removed from the United States on December 3, 2019. Following his removal, Polo-Sanchez illegally reentered the United States on an unknown date and an unknown location.

     On October 31, 2025, Polo-Sanchez was found to be illegally present in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, without obtaining the necessary permission or legal authorization.

     Upon completion of his term of federal imprisonment, Polo-Sanchez will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.
