HARTFORD, CT.- A 45-year-old Ledyard, Connecticut, man and convicted child predator is facing up to 20 years in federal prison after being federally charged on Thursday with allegedly possessing nearly 20,000 digital images and video files depicting the horrific sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children.

According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, Jason Gibson, 45, of Ledyard, Connecticut, has been charged by federal criminal complaint with Possession of Child Pornography. Gibson, who has been in federal custody since April 2, 2025, made his initial appearance in Federal Court in Hartford, Connecticut, and was ordered to remain detained pending trial.

According To The Criminal Complaint

According to the alleged charging information filed in the criminal complaint, in February 2020, Gibson was convicted in Connecticut State Court of possession of child pornography and sentenced to ten years in Connecticut State Prison, suspended after 30 months, and 10 years of probation. Gibson was released from state custody in January 2021.

In April 2023, Gibson’s probation was revoked for violating the terms and conditions of his release, and he was sentenced to 90 months of incarceration, suspended after six months, and 94 months of probation. Gibson was released from state custody in August 2023.

It is further alleged that on March 6, 2024, State Probation Officers made a routine home visit to Gibson’s Ledyard residence. During the visit, Officers seized an unauthorized cellular phone that contained a dark web application. A subsequent forensic examination of the cell phone uncovered more than 200 digital images and video files of child pornography. On April 2, 2025, Probation Officers conducted another home visit to Gibson’s residence and seized an external hard drive. A subsequent examination of the hard drive uncovered more than 18,000 digital images and 1,400 video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

If convicted at trial, Gibson faces a mandatory minimum of ten years and up to 20 years in federal prison. The penalties, in this case, are enhanced upon a finding of guilt due to Gibson’s prior state convictions.
