Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer Tragically Dies After Falling From Window

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- The Hudson County, New Jersey, law enforcement community, family, and friends are mourning the loss of Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer Justin Rivera, who tragically lost his life yesterday morning after he accidentally fell from a ninth-floor window of the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City, New Jersey.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday, May 30, 2025, just shortly before 9:30 a.m., law enforcement was notified of an injured Sheriff’s Officer at the Hudson County Administration Building, located at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.
Fellow Officers and First Responders located the injured Officer, later identified as Justin Rivera, 29, along the exterior of the building along Central Avenue. Officer Rivera was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Officer Rivera tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly around 10:00 a.m.
Initial Investigation Confirms Accidental Fall
Based on the initial investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Internal Affairs Unit, Detectives determined that Officer Rivera, while on the ninth floor, accidentally fell through a window. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. At the time of the accident, the Administration Building was not open to the public due to an unrelated power outage.
The investigation remains ongoing as Detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances that led up to Officer Rivera’s tragic death.
